791   imagePanama Canal Department WWI Censored Covers, 103 covers and picture postcards with "Military Censorship P.C.D." boxed handstamp and the signature of the person who censored the content, frankings include 1c Balboa (17 picture postcards and 7 covers), two covers with 1c and 2c issues, and 2c Balboa (5 picture postcards and 76 covers (including a few postal entires)), mostly from Corozal, Culebra, Fort Amador, Fort Sherman, and Gatun, also includes few from Ancon, Cristobal, Empire, Las Cascadas, and "The Panama Canal R.P.O.", 7 fronts not counted, censored handstamps are in purple, blue, magenta, black, includes July 2 1918 censor (earliest reported date; the marking was first unsed on July 1 but none have yet turned up), frankings include singles from booklet panes, couple with original letter, most to the US, few faults as always, generally Fine to Very Fine strikes, accompanied by copy of June 2013 article in COPACARTA by David Zemer and a copy of an e-mail from Zemer to Demski. 793 cover   image1917, German Detention Camp, Taboga, R. de P., ten covers consisting of six with the handstamp in either violet or magenta or blue, consisting of four stampless legal sized penalty envelopes including two to Camp Gaillard and one with violet "Mailed by Interned Alien Enemy" and boxed censor handstamps, and two normal size with the handstamp including one with 2c Balboa and other stampless -- these six covers are discussed in an accompanying article -- also includes two with 5c stamps to Germany (same sender) with a return address of one of the German ships in the Canal Zone impounded in 1914 when WWI broke out -- these two covers are discussed in accompanying e-mail exchange between Mike Demski and David Zemer -- also includes one stampless cover with violet "Mailed by Interned Alien Enemy" and boxed censor handstamps and a postal reply card from Jamaica to Panama City (same recipient as previous cover) -- accompanied by article by David Zemer that appeared in the 4th quarter 2009 issue of Canal Zone Philatelist where he provides a census of 23 known covers (but only one of the covers here is on the census), three of the legal sized covers are creased, otherwise Very Fine lot, see them all online.
