57 64/65 imageSpecialized and Fancy Cancel Collection of 3¢ 1861-67 Issue (Scott 64/65), in three very large volumes of home-made or quadrille pages; first book starts with postally used trial color proofs, 26 stamps and 11 covers with imprint captures or imprint selvage, followed by a couple pages of corner margin singles, several pages of misperfs and double (extra) perforations, a few stamps with large pre-print paper folds, seven pages with large straddle margin (including a couple with margins so large, they were trimmed to appear imperforate), five pages of various grills, including #85, then we get into the fancy cancels; Steam Boat, Registered, Free, Collect, Held for Postage, Way, Revenue Use including several bank-checks franked with stamp, Bull's Eyes, Wheels, Grids, Squares, Town postmarks, Stars, Shields, S.F. Cogwheels, Masonics, Heart, Coins, Lincoln S-E LC-NP15, Bird, "U.S.", Flowers, Masks, Army Field Post with a section of Old Point Comfort covers, Colors (blue, red, green), Territorials, Carriers, Railroads, Patent Punch cancels, Dues. Second book is filled with numerals, letters and various paid (paid in lozenge, paid in oval, paid all, paid with numeral, etcetera) cancels. The third book contains a few patriotic covers and then proceeds to town postmark by city and state. There is so much here for the specialist, with the occasional better shade mixed in (many possible 64/64B), along with so many high premium fancy cancels. Of course, when a collector is this specialized, some condition or centering may be sacrificed in exchange for a better cancel or shade, so don't expect to send many stamps in for grading, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. This accumulation consists of 490 with many cancellation varieties but unchecked for variety of paper, printing, plating, etc., there are a few with colored cancels.
