Massive Transportation Plate Number Strip of 5 Accumulation, 1981-86, in 6 large file boxes filled with #4 glassines, each glassine lists the Scott number and plate number of the contents, which add up to a total face value of over $15,600, consisting of face value of over $10,000 for unused strips and face value of over $5,600 for bureau precancelled strips and includes a few better coils. As we were spot checking the inventory list we noted the following items: 1891 plate number 2 (34), 1895 plate number 1 (17), 1901a plate numbers 3 or 4 (388), 1903 plate numbers 3 or 4 (215), 1904 plate numbers 1 or 2 (395) and 1908 plate number 6 (62). It is sorted by issue and plate number and also contains interesting varieties, cancels, and interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. The collector's goal was to acquire the most elusive used plate numbers, resulting in more elusive plate numbers. The main focus of this collection is on used plate number singles, and the collector spent almost five decades acquiring almost every available stamp in this category. As a result, it's highly likely that most of the stamps in this collection are among the rarest in the market. Specialized Collection of 1861-67 Issue, with Plate Numbers (Scott 63-97), on Scott Specialty pages, with a particular focus on used imprint captured singles. It is sorted by issue and also contains interesting varieties, cancels, and a few interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. As anyone who knows these early classics, it is incredibly difficult to find imprint captures of some of these early issues as the selvage was not typically saved and the margins were quite narrow. Notable items start with a page of the early 1861 issues, with a couple great candidates for pink or rose pink shades, 72, 76, 78, moving on to a page of #63 with various shades, color cancels, double perfs, paids, a couple covers, etcetera, 68 page with some fancy cancels: ie: cogwheel, paid, color cancels, as well as a lovely imprint single, partial page of 70/78 several stamps with a variety of shades, one stamp with double perforations, 73 page of stamps with various cancels, a couple revenue cancels, paids, color cancels, 9 stamps and 1 cover with imprint selvage including one which says "Plate" but the number was probably on the next stamp, 76 a couple stamps, one with prominent imprint capture, a page of the various grills with wide straddle margin #85B, along with some other grilled issues: 86, 89, 92 (2), several 93s with color cancels or paper varieties, 96-97 and 97 with small preprint paper fold. The collection primarily centers around individual used imprint stamps. He prefered plate numbers, but they are exceedingly difficult on these early issues. The collector has spent close to fifty years amassing nearly all of the available stamps in this category. This makes it highly probable that a majority of the stamps in this collection are some of the scarcest ones in the market. Other areas of the collection have already yielded incredibly rare stamps, and we anticipate finding more in this particular section.
