It has kept my me busy hiring out negroes & hunting provisions since Mr. Harden left. However, I have succeeded admirably in getting good places & high wages. Everybody says that I get better wages than anyone else. I took Joel from Mr. Chester where he has been hired for the last year. (the next line is cut out, but she has clearly changed the subject to someone other than the slave). He says he messes with the officers & he invited the Col & Lietenant Col. to partake of his turkey which was delightful. I bought two very fat large turkeys, one which I sent him & the other I have in reserve when he comes. He mentioned that as soon as they got their tents fixed in Savannah, he would surprise us some night on the two o'clock train so I am looking every night for him. I presume he wrote you that he was beat by 4 votes for Major by a trick. The man that was elected is from Milledgeville.", Very Fine, another 20X1 cover from the same correspondence was offered in the Wishnietsky collection.
