2223 E BK191 imageBooklet, 1991, $5.80 Comedians, proposed and accepted designs (Scott BK191), unique group of items for the Comedians booklet stamps designed by Al Hirschfeld, includes paper sketches for Fanny Bryce, Fred Allen and Bing Crosby with notations at left, a 30 cm by 64 cm sketched strip of four featuring Jimmy Durante, Bergen & McCarthy, Fanny Bryce and Fred Allen in booklet format, same size and formatted strip with ink drawings of Jack Benny, Marx Brothers and Laurel & Hardy with 25¢ values, another same size but formatted vertically of Fanny Bryce, Fred Allen and Bing Crosby, and finally a paper sketch of Ernie Kovacs, Rosa Ponsellle and Mary Pickford, with ink notations on paper cover and backing and a 30 cm by 64 cm ink drawing with vertically formatted drawing of the previous three stars, would look superb matted and hung in an office or den, please stop by and ask to view these masterpieces, Fine to Very Fine.

Al Hirschfeld was an American caricaturist best known for his black and white portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars. In 1991, the United States Postal Service commissioned Hirschfeld to draw a series of postage stamps commemorating famous American comedians. The collection included drawings of Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Edgar Bergen (with Charlie McCarthy), Jack Benny, Fanny Brice, Bud Abbott, and Lou Costello
