486 /o/   imageEthiopia, Impressive & Comprehensive Collection, Of the numerous excellent collections formed by Michael Rogers over the years, undoubtedly the finest in terms of rarities, level of completeness and diversity as respects postal history, proofs and essays is the Ethiopia collection offered within.

The name "Michael Rogers" is synonymous with Asian philately worldwide. It is largely due to the fact that Michael chose to collect Ethiopia, for as he often stated that while collecting Ethiopia would not directly compete with his firms known specialties, it would provide him with nearly identical challenges. One does not have to look too deeply to see Ethiopia like China offers a myriad of surcharge varieties, limited, yet rare postal history prospects, plus the many forms of proofs, essays, presentation sheets and the like, the type of items which round out outstanding collections!

The Rogers collection is comprised of 22 customized Scott specialty albums, 3 slip cases of postal stationery and 2 binders. It spans the years 1867-2000, and in its entirety, represents the finest collection in U.S. hands and certainly will rank among the finest ever formed. Of the 1895-1908 issues, nearly all the items hail from famous collections, such as Roberto Sciaky and Clinton Geiser or have been viewed by Mr. VH Lindahl, the foremost noted authority on these issues.

The presentation, research and subsequent descriptions that accompany each page reflect the years of dedicated study of this area. It should be noted that although this remarkable collection has never been exhibited, it can, without question, be the basis of an award winning collection.

The collection begins with scarce postmarks and postal history of the British, 1867-68 Abyssinia field forces, along with the French and British forerunner usages. From the 1895 First issue onwards, each issue receives extraordinary coverage, offering multiples, presentations and proof offerings, such as the 1895 ½g to 16g first issue presentation proof sheets of 25, the complete set of 10, prepared for display at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition, the so-called "Bristol" papers, along with the exceedingly rare Alfred Ilg produced first issue presentation card given to high ranking government officials, rare specimens, along with remarkable and stunning items of postal history.

We have endeavored to feature a small handful of premier items in this separate catalog. Extensive images are available online and of course, if further information is needed, kindly contact us here at Kelleher., Fine to Very Fine.
