THE EARLIEST RECORDED LETTER FROM GEORGIA.

James Oglethorpe was a founder and early leader of the Colony of Georgia. In January of 1733, he landed with Georgian colonists in South Carolina. He traveled south to the mouth of the Savannah River, sailing 18 miles upstream, and landing at the site of present-day Savannah.

Sir Robert Walpole held many English political offices including "prime minister" from 1721 until 1742, when he was forced to resigned as a result of failing health.

A UNIQUE GROUP THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DUPLICATE.

In 1755, when serious conflict developed between Great Britain and France, the Treasury and the Postmaster General seriously considered a complete changeover from the exclusive use of private shipping for postal converyance across the Atlantic. As a result, in January 1756, the Falmouth packet began service carrying the transatlantic mail by packet boats in a governnment-operated monthly service between Falmouth, England and New York.
