11001			1818 (Jan. 22, datelined), Stampless cover sent from Martinsburg, NY, to Boston, without any postal markings, a folded letter sheet in the attractive hand of James Duane Doty; addressed to Joseph B. Murdock, care of Draper and Heywood on Boston's Market Street; clearly received and kept, the cover bears not a single postal marking, suggesting it was sent outside the mails and hand-delivered; foxing; paper brittle at folds; handle with care if you want to read the entire three-page letter, Fine to Very Fine, one for the postal historian, Doty (1799-1865) was a land speculator and politician. He was instrumental in establishing both the Wisconsin and Utah Territories, serving as Governor of each, along with service in the House of Representatives for Wisconsin under both Territorial and Statehood periods . 11002			1842 (Sept. 22), City Despatch Post cancel on folded letter sheet to New York City, large double-circle in red, "City Despatch Post/Sep 22/1 O'Clock/U.S.", on wonderfully fresh folded letter sheet addressed to Seth Low & Co. in New York; one-page letter a statement of accounts dated Sept 20, 1842, Very Fine+, an exemplary strike. 11003			1848-51, Trio of stampless 5¢ covers, comprising two 1848 covers with Newport postmarks (one Dec. 4 to Boston, one Dec. 14 to Manchester, NH), plus a Sept. 12, 1851 cover from Keene to Newport, NH; each postmark in red, the 1848 covers with straightline "PAID 5" rate markings, the 1851 with a circled "V"; condition commensurate with their age, Fine to Very Fine. 11005			ca. 1851 (Feb. 20), Outer folded letter sheet sent from Sacramento City to San José, CA, light blue folded letter sheet bearing light but complete strike of 36-mm "Sacramento City/20/FEB/Cal." postmark with italic "5" rate marking at right; an apparent variety of this 1851-56 postmark, with day over month (ASCC images only the American-style month over day dater), Very Fine, an interesting and pristine item worthy of research.
