11001   image1818 (Jan. 22, datelined), Stampless cover sent from Martinsburg, NY, to Boston, without any postal markings, a folded letter sheet in the attractive hand of James Duane Doty; addressed to Joseph B. Murdock, care of Draper and Heywood on Boston's Market Street; clearly received and kept, the cover bears not a single postal marking, suggesting it was sent outside the mails and hand-delivered; foxing; paper brittle at folds; handle with care if you want to read the entire three-page letter, Fine to Very Fine, one for the postal historian,

Doty (1799-1865) was a land speculator and politician. He was instrumental in establishing both the Wisconsin and Utah Territories, serving as Governor of each, along with service in the House of Representatives for Wisconsin under both Territorial and Statehood periods
