3005 (cover) Jefferson, Thomas imageThomas Jefferson Free Frank as President, "Free Th:Jefferson Pr. US" and well-struck "Washington. City Dec. 21" circular datestamp and matching "FREE" handstamp, on front only mounted on second piece of paper sealing a small tear at top just touching the tail of the "S" in "US" and reinforcing a horizontal crease just touching very bottom of the signature, addressed to General John Shee in Philadelphia and docketed at right "20 Decem 1807 Thos. Jefferson".

This is the most desirable form of Jefferson's free frank because it includes the "Pr. US.", supported by the docketing at the right. John Shee has been called the commander of one of the most effective combat outfits in the Revolutionary War. After serving in the Revolutionary War, achieving the Rank of General, he became the Philadelphia City Treasurer, and died there in August 1808.
