403 og image1901-02 Crown/SA Watermark 1/- dark red-brown vertical strip of 3 from the base of the upper pane Imperforate Horizontally SG 148a (ACSC S16bb), large-part original gum, Cat £4000+ ($3500+), for a pair. Only seven pieces have been recorded, most of which have been roughly separated at the base. Ex Dr Don Pearce. Michael Blake's pair - illustrated in the ACSC - sold for $4890. The unmounted 'Besancon' (I) strip of 3 sold for SFr3960.

In his book, Ed Williams states at page 5 that four examples have been recorded. Don Pearce's equally fine example sold for $2300.

406 P image1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Die proof of the 'FIVE/SHILLINGS' duty only in black on highly-surfaced card (92x60mm), handstamped '16OCT94' in Blue at upper-left, light surface-rubbing otherwise very fine. Recorded by Ed Williams at page 5: "...taken [sic] by de la Rue during an inspection, cleaning and waxing of dies held in the custody of the Agent-General for South Australia". While it is implied that this was the only example produced, Don Pearce had a similar example that, together with it's 2/6d neighbour, sold for $718.

407 P image1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Imperforate undenominated plate proof in lilac marginal block of 6 (3x2) from the base of the sheet on gummed unwatermarked paper, a bit faded/aged, characteristic minor bends, large-part original gum. Ed Williams states only two sheets (120 units) were printed.

412 O imageREVENUES: 1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Perf 10 £20 pale lilac Walker #55, well centred, light Bank of New South Wales cachet in violet, minor adhesions & blemishes on the reverse. The high values are major revenues rarities, most examples having had cancels removed and faked postmarks added. NB: the colours quoted by Gibbons are for the later Perf 11½-12½ issues. In his book, Ed Williams stated that only 11 examples of the Perf 10 £20 were purchased while on issue: his example sold at our auction of 26.1.2002 for $2160, and we are aware of two other examples that sold for over $5000 each almost 15 years ago. At least one unused example is known, Cat £48,000.

420 F image1868-76 Wmk Large Crown/SA 2d red-orange as SG 153 but apparently completely imperforate with large margins on all sides & chunks of the adjoining units at right & base, largely very fine large-part strike of the rare '[NE]W MECKLENBURG[H]/NO12/68/SA' cds (rated RRRR; all date slugs inverted). Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2019) states "from partly imperf sheet...traces of rouletting at top & left which do not seem to break the paper". Sold at a Swiss auction for SFr512. A spectacular stamp, greatly enhanced by the rare datestamp.
