336 E imagePOSTAL CARDS: 1897 (circa) Essays for a Pictorial Issue Bradbury Wilkinson Portrait 1½d black on pale blue stock with uncaptioned photo of Sugar Cane at left, light patch of discolouration below the stamp. Neither the stamp not the style of the view was adopted. Believed to be unique. Absent from Ron Butler's collection. Ex Alan Griffiths: sold at our auction of 25.3.2021 for $1885. This and the next three items are the same format as for the 1906 scenic issue, and we expect these cards were essays for the 1906 header, although the font here was not adopted for the 1906 issue. It is as was used for the 1910 cards.
