1862-74 Issues largely complete on Scott 'National' pages with denominations to $200 x2 & numerous other better items throughout,
condition variable but generally fine to very fine, Cat US$50,000+.
Our vendor has acquired most of this material from American dealers including 'big names' so we expect that most of the identifications are correct. However, very few have been expertised and we are mindful of the fact that perforated stamps can be
fraudulently altered to create imperf and 'part-imperf' stamps. Our estimate is therefore necessarily conservative. Scans of the entire collection are on our website for your personal inspection. The pencilled catalogue values are from Scott's 2019
edition and take into account the presence of 'cut-cancels'.

V-2 Prototype Missile 'Model No.9' 1/3 scale (151x33cm) aluminium main body, stainless steel fins, and wood nose cone, impressed 'U of
M WRRC 6024B' on base. Loaned in 1954 to the Microwave Radiation Company Inc, Venice California for the "performance of work on subcontract dated January 5 1954”, with the original packing slip detailing the return of the missile to the Willow Run
Research Center, University of Michigan, used for field test programs including measurement of radar cross sections carried out at the Holloman Air Development Centre, secured in original wooden packing case. (163x32x31cm). Weighs 50kg (model 25kg,
packing case 25kg). [NB: The cardboard cutout 'Rocket Man' is not part of the lot] Successor to the V-1 or ‘Doodle Bug’, the V-2 was the world's first long-range guided ballistic missile. Powered by a liquid-propellant rocket engine, it was
developed during World War II in Nazi Germany as a "vengeance weapon", designed to attack Allied cities as retaliation for the Allied bombings of German cities. Beginning in 1944, more than three thousand V-2s were launched by the Nazi Wehrmacht
against London and later Antwerp and Liege, both in Belgium. It was the progenitor of all modern rockets including those used by the United States and Soviet Union's space programmes, and was the first man-made object to travel into space. During the
aftermath of WWII the American, Soviet and British Governments all gained access to the V-2’s technical designs and recruited the German scientists responsible for creating the rockets. Parts of almost 100 V-2 rockets were brought to the USA. The US
Army undertook the task of assembling the rockets at White Sands, New Mexico, for research and experimentation by government agencies and universities to accelerate their development of their own rocket capabilities. (Image1) (Image2)
