TEN SHILLINGS: 10/- sage-green ACSC S68 (SG 291) plus 6d & 1/- x2 pairs - probably all from the Crown/A issue - & 1d rosine tied to
parcel piece by 'REGD ADELAIDE/STH AUSTRALIA' cds with largely indistinct 1912 date. A very rare franking, being the only postal article known by us franked with the 10/-. The 6d is Cat $400 on cover, but the 1/- & 10/- are both unpriced on cover.
The item has been franked a total of 14/7d (presumably including 3d registration). The highest recorded parcel rates at the time were 5/8d for an interstate parcel or 7/- for a parcel to Britain, parcels being limited to items weighing no more than
11lb (pounds). However, rates to foreign countries, while largely unknown, were much higher. We believe, therefore, that it was sent to a foreign destination, probably Germany or the United States. This, of course, is conjecture and we would welcome
any suggestions based on knowledge of the actual rates.

BOOKLET: c.1911 'ONE PENNY STAMPS/VALUE==ONE POUND' with Blue/Pink cover (Pale Blue within) and photograph of 'GENERAL POST OFFICE,
ADELAIDE' on the reverse ACSC B4(S) (SG SB1b) with 1d carmine four upper half-sheets of 60 (12x5; the first pane reduced to 8x5; the others are intact), the cover partly split at the fold and repaired with archival tape, a few other very minor
blemishes but surprisingly with no external rust around the staples (which are original), Cat $25,000 (£15,000). A great rarity of the early Federal Period.
The ACSC states that "Catalogue prices for pre-1928 booklets are for complete booklets with all contents intact...", but also states that only one example of this booklet has been recorded. Arthur Gray's extraordinary collection of Australian
Booklets included only two from this series: a cover only, with Hobart GPO on the reverse, that sold for £1080; and an incomplete booklet with Victorian stamps (stated to be "not guaranteed original") & Adelaide GPO on the reverse, that sold for
£3840. All-up, Arthur Gray had thirteen of the various issues of 1909-11 One Pound booklets. Eleven of them had no contents, and the other two were incomplete.
This booklet has 200 of 240 stamps (83% complete) and is guaranteed to be original. As far as these sensational, and incredibly rare booklets are concerned, this is about as good as they come. In our professional opinion, the catalogue prices should
reflect the reality of the situation. They should be for the covers only, and examples such as this that are largely complete, should be worth a huge premium.
