Horizontal pair showing a very pronounced 1-2mm horizontal pre-printing paper fold which separates the value tablet from the rest of the stamp, large part o.g., ample to large margins, large part o.g., slight split at end of fold, Very Fine, a very infrequent paper variety, with 2013 Moorhouse certificate.

Complete sheet of 84, full o.g., showing marginal rules on all sides, strong bold color and some mottling which is indicative of this later printing; some flaws mostly in margins including small thin in position 52 and reinforced tears in position 12, otherwise Very Fine, one of less than ten sheets recorded, ex-Dujmovic and Longhi.

Group of 18 stamps from the 1870-71 printings showing various oily ink prints; includes four mint singles (two with sheet margin), used including two singles on piece with Otavalo town cancels, horizontal pair with dotted grid, strip of three with manuscript cancel and two strips of four with Franca lozenge and town cancels, a Very Fine group.
Scott No. 2; Estimate $500 - 750.

These printings were executed by using oily inks which were not uniformly applied, thus resulting in blurred impressions. Shades range from pale ultramarine to gray blue.

Both clear to large margins, on 1871 Papel Sellado document carried through the mail from Chimbo to Guaranda, first canceled by fancy Chimbo flower handstamp with stamp showing light impression of printer's fingerprint over design, document re-addressed back to Chimbo with second ½r tied by dotted diamond lozenge and matching "Guaranda, 16 Oct" cds; top portion of document removed, otherwise Very Fine, a unique double usage on a "papel sellado" document.

Clear to ample margins, tied by red "3154" dotted lozenge handstamp on cover front to Rome, Italy, with matching "Quito, Franca, 2 Ago, 73" origin cds at top center, likely carried to Guayaquil and placed in the British P.O. then on a P.S.N.Co. steamer for Panama, with "Panama, Transit, 14 Au 1873" straight line transit date stamp where it crossed the Isthmus and embarked on a British vessel to England, "23" due handstamp applied upon arrival, entered the Italian mails with Italy 2l and 30c Postage Dues applied and canceled by "Roma, 17 Set, 73" cds's; front with repair nicks and Italy 2l due with separation nick at top, F.-V.F. appearance, ex-Longhi, with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

5079 2 imageEcuador, 1865, ½r Milky Blue, Horizontal Strip of Three. Ample to mostly huge margins, on part Judicial wrapper from La Esperanza, tied by bold strikes of red "Ibarra, Franca, 24 Juno, 71" cds paying the triple parcel rate for up to 3 ounces, Extremely Fine, this was the first date stamp used at the Ibarra Post Office, being introduced in 1871 and was used in red only, ex-Funkhouser and Longhi, with 2011 Moorhouse certificate.
