Mar 31" cds, reverse with "Don Juan Ind Mar 31 1900" cds, Providence machine receiving postmark ties typeset seal, few typical flaws as usual, Very Fine, This is the only recorded cover combining the typeset and government seals. One of the most important post office seal covers., ex-Richardson. Scott No. LOX8f  Estimate $750 - 1,000. The typeset seal was applied by either the Ranger or Don Juan post offices, both of which were fourth class offices. Like other fourth-class post offices they did not have access to the government seals and had to purchase typeset seals from private vendors. Upon arrival at the first-class Providence post office on April 2, which did have access to the Government Printing Office produced seals, the 1888 seal was affixed.In addition to being the only known cover with both types of seals, this is also the only known on-cover example of the scarce Type F plate flaw of the 1888 Issue. Valley Ford in Sonoma County Cal. had a Wells Fargo office starting in 1870 and opened its post office in 1876, but the earliest Valley Ford postmarked cover is dated Mar. 17, 1879, it appears that the postmaster improvised by using his Wells Fargo & Co. device and carefully striking the company name off the envelope. Estimate  $100 - 150. Washington Flat, on the north side of the Merced River above Bagby, was a very small mining camp from 1850. In 1859, John Fremont built a dam at Ridley's Ferry that flooded out all the remaining miners. (Image1)

Estimate  $3,000 - 4,000. Military Institute, Franklin Co., Ky., was one of the two Kentucky post offices making use of a county postmark before the Civil War. The other being Lodge, Ky. in Fulton county on stampless covers. Not only is this fancy "Eagle & Shield" a county postmark, but it is a college handstamp and a postmaster's, as well as E.W.
