North & Savage, Middletown, Ct." franked with 1851 3¢ dull red pair tied by San Francisco cds, interesting early letter for the order of Patent Rifles from the North & Savage company requesting that six be sent via Adams Express by the next Steamer, manuscript endorsement "Lieut. E.B. Savage" & addressed on reverse to same in "24th Regt. Co. Vols, Banks Expedition, Baton Rouge, La." on reverse, however there is no evidence of forwarding, Very Fine, a wonderful & historical item. Scott No. 11  Estimate $200 - 300.
