3291     100 image1867, 30¢ orange, F. grill. O.g., lightly hinged, clearly defined grill with all points easily visible, very well centered for this tightly margined issue, Post Office fresh with bright color, Extremely Fine and choice, signed Small "W.H.C." (Colson) backstamp, with 2001 & 2009 P.F. certificates.
Scott No. 100; $9,000.

THIS IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE FINEST ORIGINAL GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 30¢ F. GRILL IN EXISTENCE. A STUNNING STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT, DISPLAYING OVERALL FRESHNESS OF GUM, COLOR, PAPER, OUTSTANDING CENTERING, AND PROMINENCE OF THE GRILL. ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT OF ALL CLASSIC U.S. STAMPS TO OBTAIN IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION.

Due to the narrow spacing on the plate, the 30¢ F. Grill is virtually unobtainable in choice condition. The stamp offered here with near perfect centering and balanced margins on all sides, and with color as fresh as the day it was printed, is a true condition rarity.nnA careful review of online records produced only a small handful of original gum examples of the 30¢ F. Grill in grades of Very Fine or Extremely Fine. As a point of reference, the P.S.E. has graded a merely two examples with original gum, one grade "50" and one graded "80".
