ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER AMELIA EARHART SIGNED FLIGHT COVERS.

In 1935, famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart paid a goodwill visit to Mexico City, carrying mail bound for New York City on her return flight to Newark, New Jersey. In honor of her visit, Mexico issued an airmail stamp for mail carried on the return flight (Scott #C74), by overprinting its 1934-35 20c Lake "Eagle Man" airmail (Scott #C68a). 780 stamps were overprinted, of which 480 were additionally overprinted "Muestra" and sent to the Universal Postal Union for distribution to postal administrations worldwide. Only about 35 to 40 pieces where ever carried by Earhart to New York City

LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
436       imageSurinam, 1803 Fort Amsterdam to Jamaica. Folded letter datelined "29 September, 1803" sent to "Sir John Thomas Duckworth K.B., Rear Admiral and Commander in Chief, Jamaica", with letter from British Captain held prisoner by the Dutch…I am extremely sorry to inform you that I have at last been obliged to give up His Majesty's Sloop Surinam after repeated demands from the Dutch Government, of this Island, it is impossible to describe the behavior of my officers and men, their conduct has been remarkably good indeed, in every respect. The duplicity of the Dutch Government, since the Surinam has been in Surcar is beyond anything I can describe, ever since we have been prisoners of War, we have been fired upon in the night, in the house allotted for me. You will no doubt be surprised at receiving no Officers with the people send down to you, the reason is, the Council required us to sign a paper that war, or no war, or in the event it should prove a war hereafter, between England and Holland, we should engage not to serve against the Batavian Republic, or their Allies until we were regularly exchanged, agreeable to our rank and situations, which we positively refused, saying we would stay in prison for seven years, than sign any such paper.; cover with light staining at lower left, F.-V.F., a rare letter from a British prisoner of war in Dutch Suriname after the Dutch reclaimed it in 1802.
