3271 /o      British Asia, Collection, 1867-1970's. Substantial semi-specialized collection mostly mounted and annotated on quadrille pages in six volumes. The Malaya and Borneo area plus Hong Kong are presented here, and as this was the collector's favorite area, there is a high level of completion for these countries, including sets and singles mint or used up to over $1,000 each, with a myriad of multi hundred-dollar items, including many scarce varieties seldom seen in most collections. There are also covers, multiples, some specimen overprints (often on the very high values as expected). The collector focused on quality, always seeking clean and attractive examples whenever possible, so there are only occasional small faults to be found here and there. Some high values have fiscal cancels and are counted as such or not at all. North Borneo is the strongest country but also quite strong are Labuan, Singapore, Sarawak, Brunei and all of Malaya, including separate states, plus Federated States and Straits Settlements, plus a nice showing of Hong Kong. Highlights are far too numerous to list, but they will be noted easily with a solid viewing, which should be a pleasure for anyone keen on this ever-popular area. This marvelous collection took many decades of search and acquisition by a dedicated collector, and is offered intact, representing a rare opportunity to obtain a comprehensive showing of the area, which is getting more and more difficult of late. Cat value sure to be multiples of our estimate.
Estimate; $40,000 - 50,000.
