East Coast of Africa," and a route directive "Via Marseilles," at upper left. There is an added label "Care Dr. Brooks, Seychelle Isles." at bottom left, with red "Boston Am. Pkt. 5 Oct Paid" on back, plus Mauritius (3 Dec) and red London Paid transits, red crayon "4" (British Colonial credit). The addressee, Albert P. Goodhue, was a ship chandler and businessman from Salem Massachusetts (likely related to Benjamin Goodhue who served in the state senate from 1784-9 and then as Mass representative in the first US congress.
