95 image1850 1D ARCHER EXPERIMENTAL PERFORATION (SG16b) PLATE 93 MATCHED TRIO LETTERED GC. Fine used 1850 1d Archer pl.93 (SG16b) lettered GC, well centred and cancelled fine strike London '62' District Office numeral clear of alphabet 1 check letters and clearly showing 'RECUT SE SQUARE'. Matched with two imperforate examples (SG8), same plate same lettering, one in a deeper red-brown shade, fine four margins and Irish numeral also clearly showing the recut SE square and therefore an earlier printing. The other imperforate in a pale red-brown shade with four close but clear margins with weaker recutting to SE square and thus a later imperforate printing after Archer trials. Unusual trio. (Ref 130061).

On reverse 'SHIP-LETTER/SYDNEY' date stamp JU 9 1858. The Kidderminster spoon is a very rare and underrated cancellation, this is a most unusual usage with 6d going to Australia. (Ref 130037).

This cross is newly listed by SG in the specialised catalogue and cats £1200 as a single stamp off cover. Rockoff and Jackson only list eleven examples on and off cover, not including this pair. 112 image1896 G.P.O. 'TIME BILL' FOR THE NIGHT MAIL TRAIN SHREWSBURY TO ABERYSTWITH AND ABERYSTWITH BACK TO SHREWSBURY. A rare unused 'GENERAL POST OFFICE.... SHREWSBURY and ABERYSTWITH Time Bill' printed in green with fine printed details of the railway station stops, expected time of arrival or departure and at left space for the guard to make particular comments concerning any incidents. This example lists the following stations: Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Montgomery, Abermule, Newtown, Moat Lane, Caersws, Carno, Llanbrynmair, Cemmaes Road, Machynlleth, Glandovey, Ynyslas, Borth, Llanfihangel, Bow Street and Aberystwith. These time bills would have been post marked upon arrival and then sent using the printed address panel on reverse to 'The Inspector-General of Mails, General Post Office, London.'. A rare survivor. Envelope sent registered express from London to Paris with KGV ½d green (SG351), 4d grey-green (SG379) and 2/6 Bradbury Wilkinson Seahorse (SG415), several shorter perforations, all tied good to fine strikes 'LONDON CHIEF OFFICE' date stamps 10 NO 19. On front manuscript 'By aeroplane/Express'. A rare example of the 2/6 express charge for mail to France, a service which was intended to commence 11th November 1919 and lasted until 10th May 1920. The first flight was delayed until the 12th November and presumably this cover would have been carried on this first flight. (Ref 129299).

120 image1857 DIE 2 1D PLATE 53 PALE-ROSE SHADE ON CREAM TINT OR WHITE PAPER 'SAVOY ST' PRINTING (SPEC C9A(1) (AE). A good to fine used example from the very rare 1857 die 2 1d pl.53 in a pale-rose shade on cream tint or white paper from the very short lived 'Savoy St' printing in a distinctive pale shade due to a change in the ink composition by Perkins Bacon in an attempt to reduce printing costs (spec C9A(1). Cancelled '906' numeral of Woburn (Beds). Corner crease but a rarely offered plate. RPS Certificate 110314. (Ref 128572).
