Fine to very fine used 1840 1d black plate 1A WATERMARK INVERTED (SG2Wi) lettered IA with four close to large margins and cancelled light strike red Maltese cross. Stamp clearly shows 5 and 10 o'clock ray flaws and dots in 'A' square. Inverted watermark (Spec AS2g) on plate 1A is very rare and cats £4000. (Ref 131985).

Irregular piece, approx 120 x 110, with 1d black pl.1b (SG2) lettered OL, three fine margins and clearly showing RE-ENTRY MARKS (Spec AS6b) tied good strike of the Hermiston (Scotland) MALTESE CROSS IN MAGENTA (Spec A1vd). Alongside good to fine strike 'HERMISTON/PENNY POST' hand stamp in same shade of magenta and on reverse Edinburgh date stamp JUL 25 1840. Jackson records two other examples dated 21s June and 11th November 1840. RPS cert 233458. Rare usage. (Ref 131741).

Very unusual provincial usage of the 2d Mulready particularly with address on reverse. (Ref 131709).

Wrapper from Wellington in Shropshire to 'Mr Bottes, Brosley, Salop' with 1d imperf (SG8) originally affixed and lightly cancelled, however stamp has fallen off in transit and therefore treated as unpaid at Ironbridge with 'IRONBRIDGE' date stamp NO 17 1846 and very fine strike of the rare hand stamp '2' charge mark in black of Ironbridge (SH184). This was a locally produced hand stamp and the County Catalogue only records usage for this day. On reverse 'WELLINGTON SALOP' date stamp NO 16 1846. (Ref 131708).

90 image1916 MAIL FROM THE WAR FRONT TO LONDON WITH FINE STRIKE 'BY KING'S MESSENGER' HAND STAMP IN RED. Envelope, slight creasing, from the war front in France to 'Mrs Keith, 37 York Mansions, Battersea Park S.W' with KGV 1d (SG357) tied by 'PASSED BY CENSOR/CROWN/1415' hexagonal hand stamp in purple and 'LONDON' date stamp 17 JU (?) 16. On front very fine strike of the rare hand stamp 'BY KING'S MESSENGER' in red. During the First World War sealed mail bags carried by Royal Messengers were used to ensure the safe delivery of more important mail and this item would have been transported in this way. Very rare. (Ref 130616).
