Internet, Mail, and Phone Auction 3106 - September 13, 2023

Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 635 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights include the following:

  • UNITED STATES, There are (132) U.S. lots offered, with about (40) being an assortment of Classics and Banknotes. Several scarce/rare items include a no.83, 3¢ Rose "C" grill; an 85B -2¢ Black, Ty II, "Z" Grill; no.88, 3¢ Rose Red, "E" Grill; and no.118, 15¢ Brown and Blue, Type I. The rest are a mixture of a few Pan Americans, Louisiana Purchase, Panama Pacific, Washington-Franklins, and the late 20s and modern issues, with (39) Graded issues including (4) GEM 100 grade.
  • COVERS, There are (48) Cover lots, (10) commercial covers, including some Classics on cover, (38) First Day Cover lots, with several having Crosby photo or raised print cachets with seldom seen $1 and $2 Prexie First Day covers.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, This section contains (57) lots, (17) of which are Air Post issues and (40) Back of Book issues . A number of early Postage Due issues are offered and a presentable copy (though with a small tear) of newspaper PR4. Also included, the scarce 1969 and 1970 mint year sets.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, (2) Lots of EFO's are offered, both with color mis-registration issues.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, There are (259) lots to consider, with (126) lots of sets and singles from Ajman to Venezuela - Including some nice lots from Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands and Colonies, Venezuela; and many other countries. There are (11) U.S. Collections and (19) Foreign Country collections, with a neat British Africa collection of about (1900) stamps. Also, (9) World Wide and Topical Collections, that includes a bicycle topical and a Beatles/John Lennon collection.

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are (25) miscellaneous and autograph lots with a few notable Autographs - including Greta Garbo, regarded as one of the greatest screen actresses of all time. Also, the signature and "musical doodle" of Rudolf Friml, composer of "Indian Love Call" and "Vagabond King". The rest includes various Memorabilia, Literature and odds/ends.

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS & PRINTS, contains about (204) lots, with a mix of Federal, State, Foreign, Artist Signed stamps, EFO's, and other duck related categories. Included are (11) FDC and (7) collections, and (10) Junior Duck Stamp lots. Also, (22) lots of Plate Number Singles, and (77) lots of Federal stamps consisting of singles, plate blocks and a few plate block matched sets. There a few miscellaneous items: (6) Mini-sheet and Press Sheet items, and (36) Artist Signed stamps. Also, (19) duck stamp error lots are being offered, with most being where the offset color has been mis-registered, with some being quite dramatic. There are (9) State Duck, conservation and Fishing lots. There are (4) Print lots featuring First of State Prints from Mississippi, Missouri and Nevada. The Nevada print has been remarqued in pencil by the artist, Larry Hayden (deceased).
