Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, March 17,
2021 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains almost 700 lots, with
material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and
dealers alike, including a large selection of graded items. A few of the
highlights include the following:
UNITED STATES, There are about (70) U.S. lots, with a few early issues.
There is a nice set of Banknotes 1870-71, 145-155 issues, with some nice
cancels and bright colors. For the Kansas Overprint collector, you will
find a SUPERB 98 NH example of #660, with graded certificate. Do not miss
out on the great number of graded stamps in the 1930 to date section!
There are many SUPERB 98, as well as XF-Superb 95 issues.
COVERS, There are (36) Cover lots; Commercial, Presidential, Flight
and Special Delivery covers and First Day covers. There is a nice set of
Overrun Countries Complete Set of 909-21 First Day Covers, with VF to XF
stamps. An interesting and nice selection of covers.
AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, contains (28) lots of Airmails and
Back of Book issues, which includes (17) Graded issues. You will find a
good example of a C2 Centerline Block of 4, VF-XF OG, and a C18 Bottom
Plate Block of 6 in F-VF+ NH condition. Also, some Special Delivery
issues, an Official Mail Study lot of about (125) stamps, and a nice Q10
Parcel Post issue; XF 90 VVVLH, with graded certificate.
ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, a good selection of (26) lots of various
imperforate, mis-perforations, and color mis-registrations. One example is
#1711b horizontal pair, imperforate vertically; F-VF NH.
AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are (5) interesting miscellaneous
items, including (7) 1940 "AMERICAN VICTORY STAMP" SHEETS OF (40) issued by
the American Olympic Committee, signed by prominent figures of the late
1930s. Also, a lot of (11) Bond Specimen Documents, all printed by the
"NORTHERN BANK NOTE COMPANY - CHICAGO". In the Autographs section, there
is a Lyndon B. Johnson lot, consisting of (2) TLS; one on U.S. Senate
letterhead, and the other on Vice President letterhead. Check out the
1193var PROJECT MERCURY, BLOCKS OF 4, ALL SIGNED BY EACH ASTRONAUT! A
really great space collector's item!
GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, (99) lots with a variety of countries
including: Australia, British Antarctic Territory, Canada, Denmark,
Germany, and a very nice selection of Great Britain stamps (ex: 2 2p Blue,
F-VF, with red maltese cross cancel). Also, a few nice Russian items (ex:
6887-90 2r-85 Naval Submarine Issues, (4) mini-sheets). Take a look at the
United States collections and Foreign country lots, as well.
DUCK STAMPS AND CONSERVATION STAMPS (Federal, Junior and State)
contains about (385) lots, which includes (8) Souvenir Cards and (16) FDC's
to start. A particularly unique item is the SOUVENIR CARD NO. 0001 FROM
1989 COLLECTOR'S CLUB OF CHICAGO EXHIBITION, awarded to Bob Dumaine for his
exhibit of "Duck Stamp Rarities", signed on reverse. There are (4) Federal
collections; (14) Junior Duck stamps, as well as a very nice section of
Junior Duck Sheets. Also, a nice selection of (49) Federal Plate Number
Singles, (108) Federal Duck singles and plate blocks; (18) Federal Duck
Sheets, Mini-sheets and Press Sheet pieces, (23) Duck Errors, and about
(65) Federal and State Artist Signed; a selection of (18) State Duck
stamps, (6) Governor's Edition lots, and (4) Conservation and Fishing
items. The sale ends with a selection of (22) Prints; (6) Federal, and (16)
State Duck Prints, with (5) First of State prints (IL, IN, MD, MI,and MS).
