1851 pre-stamp entire (worn edges & light staining), GB to NZ, carried as a paid ship letter. Addressed to "Miss Calliot, Wellington, New Zealand". M/s "Ship Letter", large "8" in red (8d paid), large ornate "2" h/s (Auckland) (= 2d to pay). H/s are "Commercial Rd. Ld." (straight-line, undated), "Paid" (London cds 14 AP), unframed "SHIP LETTER/LONDON" AP 14, "AUCKLAND/NEW ZEALAND" SP 3, & similar Wellington SP 25. All markings fine. Full of character (now 150+ years old!) Ex Derek Holmes.

Lane at Opua (Bay of Islands), readdressed to Waikare (nearby). On flap, h/s of Seegner, Langguth & Co. B/s 6 cds incl Russell 25 SP, Opua, 25 SP (x 4) & Waihaha 26 SP. Originally posted unsealed but flap now partly stuck down. Very fine cond.

1900 Boer War stampless OAS cover to NZ, endorsed in m/s, "No. 1[?] Company, No. 1508 N.Z.R.R. On Active Service. No stamps available" & (in separate hand) "J. Pringle, Captain". [N.Z.R.R. = NZ Rough Riders"]. Red m/s "1d" (1d postage due), but apparently not collected in NZ. Fine cds "Field Post Office / British Army S. Africa / 16" OC 12 00. Three NZ receipt b/s, incl fair-good Clareville A-type cds 21? NO 00. Some creasing, repaired opening tear. Good frontal appearance.

On arrival in NZ, 1d Postage Due added & canc Devonport 9 JA 05. Readdressed to Otorohanga. Total of 5 diff NZ pmks (all fine) on address side. Fine cond.

1906 commercial cover ex NSW to NZ franked NSW 1d Arms, canc unclear duplex d/s JY 28. M/s "Printed Matter Only", then (in another hand) "Not sufficiently opened", & with large blue pencil m/s "10T". On back, irregular block of 10 (1 damaged) x NZ 1d Postage Due type 2, p11 SG D19, canc blue pencil m/s, over top of Wellington & Dunedin receipt machine d/s. The U.P.U. "T" (= taxe) markings on international mail indicated French gold centimes. In this case, "10" = "10c" = 1d; double the deficiency would be 2d to be paid, not 10d. So, misunderstood in NZ? Opened 3 sides, good cond. Note SG D19 was used for 1 year only.

1914 WWI cover to NZ, franked Egypt 5m Sphinx, canc very fine 95% strike of "N.Z. MILITARY POST OFFICE/EXPEDITIONARY FORCE" rectangular rubber d/s (violet), dated "_ 20 1914" (ie month not shown). Used for a short time in Egypt by N.Z. Base Army PO, after initial use on troopships of the Expeditionary Force main body (which reached Egypt 2/12/1914). The month of this strike must therefore be December. NZ receipt b/s of Mangaweka 2 FE 15. Fine.
