406 imageBermuda Stampless: New York to Bermuda: 29 February 1845 BERMUDA/ SHIP LETTER S1 Type I in red light impression, on full folded letter (ink spots) from New York date lined Feb 29, 1845 bearing manuscript "pr Brig Falcon", docketed St. George arrival Mar 10th. Only about a dozen examples exist. Ex Sir Henry Tucker II lot 3, Dr. Pitts.

Contents refer to this letter being a duplicate of one sent by the Sch. Lyra and refers to a damaged Swedish vessel Neptunius that put into Bermuda, and disposition of her cargo which will be picked up by the Brig Lawrence Copeland.

A Mr. M. Higgens writes to a Mr. Chalmont - Page one conveys cotton market conditions and profit etc. Page two follows: …. It is said here the Dutch have entered in to a treaty with France, not to lay down their arms until England is vanquished. We expect Demerara will be taken possession of by our Commanders in Chief in the west if they do not free Negros according to French model will be declared free……. …. If Demerara is taken over. there will be a very fine new ship from this appears then directly, the capt will give you a letter from me … I wish you to get it loaded as fast as possible - at all events keep your self free of entanglements & ___ who you can't ship yours truly _________ M Higgens Page 3: Next packet will determine the time of sail and remember me to ______ Demerara was seized probably in April 1796 by a force from Barbados. Who says the military industrial complex was discovered by President Eisenhower. Extensively presented, historic and a great front-piece for a superior collection. The stampless 3 page letter bears a London _______ FE 4 95 postmark on reverse and a manuscript "1/- charge on front transitioning through Barbados. Historical documentation accompanies.

420 imageCanada: New Brunswick; Great Britain to New Brunswick Turner Correspondence, 1839 Folded trans-Atlantic letter, written in Bedford, England March 29, 1839 by John Turner to his brother Thomas Turner in St Andrews, bearing very fine strike of large 1 AP 1839 Crown LIVERPOOL SHIP LETTER plus red NEW YORK SHIP MAY 5 and manuscript "Per English Mail",on reverse undated Bedford receiver. US rate is 27 (25¢ postage plus 2¢ ship fee) 14 ½d. Part of the Famous Turner Correspondence.

Interesting contrary routing, going through New York. Great Penmanship. The Bedfordshire Historical Record Society Published The Turner Letters in 2022. The book covers the years 1830-45 and give a lively view of life in a rural village in times of upheaval. John's brother, Thomas, was a merchant in a small Canadian port close to the United States border. Part of the correspondence relates to Thomas's suppliers and gives an idea of the precariousness and danger of the passage from England to Canada and the difficulties of setting up a new business overseas.
