& Hawaii Historical Correspondence, all relating to Albert A. Steinberger "President Grant's Man in Samoa", an interesting original find of letters, envelopes and documents nearly all from the period of December 1874
through late 1875, includes Dec 1874 letter from Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States, signed for the President by Hamilton Fish, Secty of State, a May 19 1875 document in Samoan language with official
seals signed by the head of the Great Malietoa House and by George A. Norris Lieut. USA, also two October 31 1875 documents from A.A. Steinberger with 1875 colorless embossed seal on each as PREMIER, first naming his
son the "...duly authorized agent of the Kingdom of Samoa..." and the second document to "His Majesty Kalakaua King of Hawaii" authorizing his son John A. Steinberger to
"diplomatic power to negotiate a treaty of which he is the bearer". Last are three envelopes, all stained, one "to, Jno A Steinberger, Present", one to Lieut. Geo. Norris, U.S.S. 'Tuscarora'" and
last addressed to "Lieut George A. Norris, USN, Bearer of Despatches from the Government of Samoa, USS Tuscarora, Honolulu", this large envelope with printed indicium "Department of Foreign Affairs, On His Hawaiian
Majesty's Service", an extremely rare authentic slice of American, Samoan and Hawiian history, condition is excellent due to good quality of paper but does bear many stains, a UNIQUE and Historical group. (Image1) (Image1)
