3320   image1895 Scarce Fumigated "Hawaiian Hotel" Advertising cover, #75 used Aug 31 on Inter-island cover from Honolulu to Eleele Plantation, on Kauai. Disinfected for cholera at the Honolulu post office, and two corners clipped off the envelope prior to sulphur dioxide fumigation. Possibly the only known fumigated cover from the Hawaiian Hotel.

3326   image1899 (30 Dec) Rare short paid Spanish-American War Hawaiian Flag patriotic cover, fumigated for bubonic plague at Honolulu, 81(3), J38(8), sent from Kealia, Kauai (MH 282.011) to New York City with clipped corners. Honolulu rated it a double-weight cover (underpaid 4 cents), and applied the "T CENTIMES" and pencil "20", a penalty of eight cents postage due was charged at New York and stamps affixed to the reverse; the only known Hawaiian patriotic disinfected cover. ex Pietsch, Sandrik

3331   image1924 Rare Fumigated cover from Kalawao Leprosy Settlement on Molokai, 615 Sep 25 use on corner clipped envelope sent by Brother Dutton, who arrived at Kalawao 1886 and replaced Father Damien 1889. Inscribed “JD./Kalawao” in upper left corner. Envelope is stained from fumigation and stamp first marked with a blue “X” at Kalawao (post office closed in 1916), and postmarked in transit at the Honolulu post office, where it was fumigated a second time. Sent to Madison, Wisconsin.

Whitney, printer of the famed missionary stamps, some file fold soiling, but still VF.
