Housed in a Scott national album and well written up, beginning with the UNICEF issues with a dozen different singles states of the printings, reflecting the ie. missing colors, proofs etc, followed by the m/s of 4 the actual proof sheet as presented to the UN delegates. These also include a color stage proof sheets in blue, dark blue, red, then the red blue and dark blue, and blue, as well as the final sheet! Then a study of various o/p issues 1906, through to the allegories including multiples, particularly spacing errors etc. Also present various Bileski promotions, triangular imperfs, triangular rouletted etc, mint and used, imperf pairs of 1918 mercurys and mandigos, dramatically misplaced comb perforations on the "plantain eater" touraco block of 4, various , Harpers registered, as well as the large registered of 1924 #F30-#F34 etc. Please note some the collection is presented somewhat haphazardly, not chronologically, with stamps stuffed on the side of the album pages. Also seen some postal history, all intermingled with the Bileski material through to further imperforates etc etc. Another very large folder accompanies the Scott national album with sheets of specimen overprints, missing colors, missing inscriptions, imperforates galore etc. , Quite chaotic and the Scott album itself is bursting apart, nevertheless lots of scarce issues here, especially the UNICEF, occasional mixed condition.
A quality valuable collection of several dozen items spanning pre-philatelic to the 1920s, organized in one well filled volume. There is a wonderful range of single frankings on the first Charles III issues of 1885 with two superb covers each on the 25cts green (#6), 40cts slate on rose (#7) and scarce 75cts black on rose (#8), with total Scott retail $3,800 on these six items alone and all in exceptional quality. Then the 1891/1921 Albert I issues with excellent commercial usages with highlights including the 1fr black on yellow single franking on a beautiful cover to Bavaria (#26, listed but unpriced in Scott for single franking), followed by a highly unusual mixed franking of five different Albert values to 15cts applied en route from Germany to Belgium on slightly battered 10pf red "Reichspost" letter card with additional stamps of Germany (placed to seal the card) and Belgium (on reverse), accompanied by cds cancels of 1898 from Germany, Monaco and Belgium - a genuine franking with manuscript cancels on the German and Monaco denominations and endorsement in the same hand (which may shed some light on this extraordinary usage). The Albert I frankings continue with tricolor 5cts green stationery envelope with 40cts and 50cts registered to Berlin 1896, another 1fr black on yellow with 2x 5cts green registered to Austria, the 25cts blue pair (#21) with interpanneau number 4 alone on registered and censored cover to Switzerland 1918, also the 25cts green (#20) single usage on illustrated cover of the Hotel Metropole, followed by attractive small philatelic cover with ten different values including both the 1fr and 5fr dark green, as well as a good range of 1891/1921 issues used to uprate postal stationery including "taxe reduite" surcharges. Among the latter is also the scarce surcharge on 15cts carmine envelope. Other good postal stationery includes the 1890 Charles III 15cts carmine on greenish blue envelope commercially uprated with Albert issues in 1914 to Germany, Prince Louis II 40cts blue postcard uprated with 25cts red on yellow interpanneau number 7 pair and 1928 Louis II 90cts red used to Milan, as well as Austria 10h pink used from Monaco in 1905 and 1925 1ct arms newspaper wrapper used to Kenya. Another good area is postage due covers, with first issues including 10cts rose (#J3), key 10cts brown on uprated Hungarian letter card (#J4), the 20cts bister strip of 3 (#J6), the 30cts blue (#J7) on two covers including registered from Tunisia, the 50cts brown x2 on redirected cover 1908 (#J9), 50cts green (#J10), as well as Rainer/Grace signatures on cover This is just an outline of this extraordinary and diverse accumulation of material, it should be studied unhurriedly as there is far more here than described. Please see the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)
