was severly struck down by disease. Towards the final stage of the war, following the capture of Chin Kiang Fu, the regiment embarked to sail up the Yang-tse-Kiang. The fleet arrived on 8 August off Nanking. The regiment was landed on 10 August and
everything was in readiness to advance when a Treaty of Peace was signed on 29 August and all hostilities ceased The letter comments on the China War being "settled" and "The last place that I was engaged at was Chappo, there was a good number of
men killed & likewise a few of our Officers which it was impossible to the whole of us to escape. I run a very narrow escape myself. I received a ball through the crown of my cape & smashed my pipe which I was very sorry" (Image1)
