 ONE OF TWO RECORDED USAGES OF THE WORLDS FIRST POSTAGE STAMP ON A COVER FROM MALTA
GB 1840 1d black pl.1b BA, very fine with wide margins all around tied by superb black Maltese Cross to entire written in "MALTA, August 23, 1841", privately carried to London, then posted at Ebury Street Twopenny Post Office, "T.P./Ebury St."
handstamp on front and red "SP 9 1841" shield datestamp on reverse, locally addressed within London to "Miss Addington, Covent Garden". The entire is written in 'Malta, August 23, 1841' with interesting postal history related content: " ... will
therefore prepare a short letter for the packet which is expected tomorrow morning ....", one of only two covers recorded franked with an Penny Black used from Malta; cert. Karl Louis BPP (2013).(Image 1)
