10081   image1918 (July 8), Calgary to Edmonton flight by Miss Katherine Stinson, folded letter from the manager of the Calgary Industrial Exhibition (under the auspices of which the flight was made) and signed by the manager, franked by two War Tax 2c + 1c stamps, one of which is tied by boxed “Aeroplane Mail Service / – JULY 9, 1918 – / CALGARY ALBERTA” cachet/ds, with Edmonton bs (July 9) and addressee’s s/l receiver (July 10). Very few covers from this flight have survived, and not all of those have the cachet/ds, very fine (AAMC PF-7; Mü. 6, 30’000pts)

Plane crashed when struck by lightning of the coast of Setiba, 1482 envelopes were recovered (Nierinck 320227a)

10094 C6 var. imageUNIQUE 30c MANUSCRIPT SURCHARGE 1920 CCNA 10c Lighthouse with value amended in manuscript to read “$ 0.30,” unused without gum as issued, light bend at right else very fine. There was a flight on Feb. 22, 1920 which used CCNA issues with “-30 cvs.-” handstamped surcharges (see Sanabria). The Brian Moorhouse certificate postulates this stamp could be an essay or trial for those issues. Also signed A. Diena. Believed to be UNIQUE. A major airmail rarity of the highest importance for this key airmail issue.
