1844   image1d BLACK COVER WITH SCOTTISH RED "NOT CALLED FOR" ENDORSEMENT - FROM NORWICH; 24 Aug. 1840 E (some creasing) to Perth endorsed to the "Post Office till called for" with 1d Black (Plate 6; NK - good to huge margins all round, light filing crease) tied by light orange-red Maltese Cross of Norwich with fine black "NORWICH" cds on the top flap. After the regulation month in the Perth P.O. no one had claimed it so the letter was returned to sender (it would have had a PO Returned Letter 'ambulance' wrapper) and it was boldly endorsed "Not called for" at Perth on the front. 1d Black covers that were not delivered - for whatever reason - are extraordinarily hard to find.
