1877 EXPERIMENTAL CANCELLATIONS: 11 May 1877 E from Barcelona to U.S.A. bearing 1876 25c x 4 brown tied by strikes of the experimental cancellation with holes in the centre to pierce the stamps. Fine. 9 July 1877 EL from Barcelona to Mulhouse, Alsace bearing 1876 5c and 20c (2) with similar experimental cancellations. Plus 1876 5c & 10c (11) with the same experimental hole producing cancellations. A most unusual experiment which caused damage to the covers, and subsequent anger amongst the general public.
