On the reverse is a fine crowned "KORORARIKA NEW ZEALAND 1840" with that year engraved as a fixture; the earliest recorded dated example is Apr. 1841. From other markings it is likely the wrapper was sent in or around Sep. 1842. On reverse is an octagonal "NO 12 42 LIVERPOOL SHIP" and a double-ringed London 13 No 1842 in red. M/s 6[d] in red paid by the sender and 8[d] in black to be paid by recipient. (Image)

By Shamrock'. The wrapper bears a light 'PAID AT KORORARIKA' on the front with straight line 'SHIP LETTER' in black on the reverse and London 12 MR 1844 receiving cds. M/s "6" indicates sixpence paid for the Colonial Postage Rate of 6d for a half ounce letter and m/s "8" shows eight pence to be paid by the recipient (ex Ellott). (Image)

Indistinct 'Paid at Kororarika' in red, m/s "1/-" showing one shilling paid by the sender and 1/6d showing the fee paid by the recipient ( the short lived double letter rate which ran between 1 Mar. 1842 and 5 Sep. 1843). 1050   imageMISSIONARY MAIL: 19 Aug. 1845 wrapper written by Pioneer Wesleyan Missionary Rev. Walter Lawry at Auckland, to the Mission Headquarters in London. On the back are the part-framed "NEW ZEALAND AU 19 1845" datestamp in black as used at Auckland, a straight line London "SHIP LETTER" in black, and London "24 FE 1846" receiving cancellation. On the front are the boxed "PAID AT AUCKLAND" in red, a red m/s "4" showing fourpence paid by the sender and a m/s "8" in black showing eight pence to be paid by the recipient. The wrapper was taken to Sydney by the 'Coolangta' and thence to London on the 'Royal Tar'. (Image)
