engraved as a fixture; the earliest recorded dated example is Apr. 1841. From other markings it is likely the wrapper was sent in or around Sep. 1842. On reverse is an octagonal "NO 12 42 LIVERPOOL SHIP" and a double-ringed London 13 No 1842 in

Headquarters in London. On the back are the part-framed "NEW ZEALAND AU 19 1845" datestamp in black as used at Auckland, a straight line London "SHIP LETTER" in black, and London "24 FE 1846" receiving cancellation. On the front are the boxed "PAID
AT AUCKLAND" in red, a red m/s "4" showing fourpence paid by the sender and a m/s "8" in black showing eight pence to be paid by the recipient. The wrapper was taken to Sydney by the 'Coolangta' and thence to London on the 'Royal Tar'. (Image)
