204   imageALLAN LINE ADVERTISING ENV.: 1882 Havana advertising env. for the Allan Ship Lines sent to New York endorsed "Pr Steam Ship Knickerbocker" with a pair of Cuba 5c tied to env. with large purple oval "CORREOS/FEB 11 1882/HABANA" adjacent & 'dumbbell' shaped "NEW YORK/FEB/15/PAID/FULL" cds on reverse. Front of env. decorated with large "[Leve &]Alden/TOURS OFFICE/207/BROADWAY" and illustrated panel on rear depicting sailing & steam ships with the wording "LEVE & ALDEN'S AMERICAN TOURS/Including all Summer and Winter Resorts/and Points of Interest in America./GENERAL PASSENGER AGENTS/ALLAN LINE/TO AND FROM EUROPE". An exceptional item. Also 1883 env. posted to Bordeaux franked with a QV 2½d tied with a fine Glasgow "159" duplex and a Bordeaux receiving cds on reverse with a very fine vignette of "JAMES & ALEXANDER ALLAN/[ship]/70 GREAT CLYDE ST, GLASGOW" on the flap. 205   imageSEVEN YEARS WAR - PRISONER OF WAR LETTER FROM ALRESFORD TO FRANCE VIA DUTCH FORWARDING AGENT; 15 Feb. 1757 EL (very slight loss of text along LH margin of second page; ex binding) from "Harasse St. Morny[?]"in "Alresford" (Hants.; recorded as a POW location by Renollaud from as early as 1757 through to 1813, but no covers recorded by him before 1778) addressed to his wife (?), "Mademoiselle de la Vuardiere Harasse" in "Grandville" in Brittany but exceptionally (for POW mail) endorsed on the flap as having been forwarded from "Rotterdam... [by] Andre Stuckey & Co." (3 March) , and so having a fine "D'HOLLAND" mark on the front with a "21" delivery charge. The letter concerns the couple's children, their health and so forth. There is an internal endorsement showing that this letter was used in Granville Court as evidence of the sender's still being alive.
