7510 image1866: Uruguay, 30 cts. brown-lilac, with France, Napolêon, 80 cts. carmine, used on cover, from MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) to VILASAR (Barcelona, Spain), 30 cts. tied by heavy barred cancel in black, the 80 cts. by the French Post Office lozenge with anchor, a black boxed 'P.P.' and octagonal datestamp alongside (15 April 1866), also a red 'PD' to left side, to reverse a Barcelona arrival datestamp in black (20 May 1866), sent through the French Consular service in Montevideo, one of the 80 cts. has a fault, there are two glue discoloured strips to either sides, otherwise fine, a rare mixed combination franking. 7535 image1866: Numerals, 20 cts. rose, two singles, used on Registered cover, from MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) to SALDUERO (Spain), tied by framed rectangular 'CERTIFCADO' in blue, cover dated 16 November 1870, with '4R' Spanish due mark in red, to the reverse a Montevideo datestamp in black and a blue 'P.TRANSATLANTICO' dated 11 Dec 1870, filing crease well clear of stamps, which apart from touching just one corner are four margins, a rare Registered cover and attractive franking. 7536 image1866/67: Numerals, 10 cts. green, used on Registered cover, from SALTO (Uruguay) to GURIEZO (Spain), tied by black barred cancel, faint Salto datestamp 12 Nov 1872, also a 'CORREO MONTEVIDEO' datestamp alongside (18 Jan 1872) has a '3R' Spanish due mark in black, there is a tear in the cover top and some toning to stamp and parts of cover, a scarce single use on cover from South America to Europe. 7538 image1866: Numerals 5 c. blue, two fine examples with the normal irregular perforation, together with France Napolêon laureated 80 c. on cover to Valencia, all three adhesives tied by light framed PD. Reverse with "P. TRANSATLANTICO 25 / 1 73" datestamp in violet struck on incoming shipmail in Lisbon as well as BADAJOZ transit cds. Taxed in Spain with "1 PESETAS." due handstamp in blue. Strong toning and horizontal crease well away from the franking, nevertheless a most interesting item with French vessel to Portugal and from there to its destination in Spain.rnNote: The colour of the TRANSATLANTICO datestamp gives an indication which shipping company brought the cover to Portugal. 7539 image1866: Numerals 10 c. green (lightest file fold), a fresh example on cover to Barcelona, the adhesives tied by light mute obliterator, "CORREO MONTEVIDEO 15 SET 73" despatch cds alongside. Reverse with "P. TRANSATLANTICO 12 / 10 73" datestamp in blue struck on incoming shipmail in Lisbon as well as BARCELONA arrival (Oct 18) cds. Taxed in Spain with "1 PESETAS." due handstamp in blue. An interesting item with British vessel to Portugal and from there to its destination in Spain.rnNote: The colour of the TRANSATLANTICO datestamp gives an indication which shipping company brought the cover to Portugal. 7659 image1864: Escuditos 6 c. brick-red, a fine and fresh example with vibrant colour and even large margins all round, on cover to Saron, Cantabria, tied by light "CORREO MONTEVIDEO 10 FEB 65" cds. Reverse with MONTEVIDEO cds of the British P.P., red LONDON and black "VILLACARRIEDO / SANTANDER" transit cds's. Taxed in Spain with "8 Rs" due handstamp. A most interesting cover which was prepaid within Montevideo and made its further journey with British vessel to London and from there presumably to Santander. (Image 1) (Image 2)

467 image1849 (Sept. 7): Entire letter from New Orleans to St. Louis, struck on obverse with distinct 27 mm intaglio "STEAMER SULTANA OF St. LOUIS" handstamp in red, no other postal markings, some toning and spots, nevertheless a fine shipmail item. rnNote: Not to be confused with the steambot Sultana, a commercial side-wheel steamboat constructed of wood in 1863, which exploded and sank on the Mississippi River on April 27, 1865, killing 1,167 people in what remains the worst maritime disaster in United States history.rn (Image 1) (Image 2)

(5 c.) black imperforate, a horizontal pair with good to exceptional margins, used on 14 Nov 1844 second sheet of entire letter from New York to Philadelphia, each cancelled by manuscript black ink line, with circular "Forwarded By / American Mail. Co." Philadelphia cachet in red (Nov 15) at right. The adhesives with scissor cut in margin only and unaffected by file folds, an exceptional and very scarce usage with the adhesives tied to the cover. Cert. 472 image1847, Franklin, 5 c. red-brown, imperforate, USA first issue, good to large margins with part right sheet margin, vivid printing, used on fragment in combination with Canada, 1851, 3 p. red, imperforate, first issue, printed on laid paper, full to large margins, bright shade, tied by the Canadian seven ring target cancel, a red 'Kingston U.C.' datestamp 4 June 1851 in red alongside and handstruck "10" mark in red, there is a vertical crease affecting the 5 c. which has a tone spot in bottom right margin, very rare mixed franking, cancelled in Canada to pay the new treaty rate, an important piece of North American postal history.rnrnReferance: "The Postage Stamps and Postal History of Canada", by Winthrop S. Endorsed and carried on Cunard Steamer "America", with "BOSTON / BR: PKT" in black (March 25) and London cds on reverse in red (April 7) and framed "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking in black. Calais entry marking and charged '8' dêcimes handstruck on arrival. A rare example of the '3 Month rate' applicable from 1 Jan 1857 until 31 March 1857. States Mail Steamer" from New Orleans to Paris tied by black barred handstamps on despatch with "New Orleans" cds in red (July 15) at left. The fine 10 c. pair also tied by "NEW YORK / AM. PKT." cds (July 25) and carried on Collins Line Steamer "Pacific" with London transit cds (Aug 6) in red on reverse; thence via Calais where charged '8' dêcimes due in black: tariff of 1 Sept 1851. File fold affects the 1 c. but a most attractive and scarce 21 cent prepaid rate (5 c. internal + 16 c. for American Packet). (Image 1) (Image 2)

The addressee had moved to Paris and thus the entire was charged '16' dêcimes due on delivery as the letter was considered as a double rate unpaid letter on arrival.
