4068 image1884/97: Imperforate Plate Proof for the 2½ d. value in issued colour of ultramarine, imperforate with erratic but ample margins all round, red ink manuscript mostly removed at top and tiny part in right margin. One other example is recorded, ex 'Ayre /Jamestown' collection (lot 1165), however that example has suffered no attempt to remove the "BLS" initials in red manuscript. Crown CA, perf. 14, the 1893 printing, an unused block of four, marginal from top of sheet, the upper pair showing variety "Stamp Doubly Printed", with lower pair normal, fresh and very fine multiple, superb freshness and colour, large part og. Just twelve stamps from the top horizontal row exist, two housed in the collection of His Majesty King Charles III. A spectacular example of this extremely rare error. Cert.
