1898: 5 c red, coiling dragon, horizontal pair with narrow gutter on left in mixed franking
with JAPAN 1888, 10s orange-brown on envelope from SHANGHAI to ST.AUGUSTINE Florida, USA. The letter was posted at the Chinese PO and received the large dollar chop SHANGHAI on the reverse, dated 18. Jan. 1898, then transferred to the Japanese PO.
The Japanese stamp was cancelled the following day, the transit to FLORIDA via YOKOHAMA and SAN FRANCISCO is documented on the reverse. Slightly uneven, albeit usual perforations. An attractive and rare double franking from the pre UPU period. (Image 1)

1903: 2 c. red, three examples on postcard to Switzerland via Siberia. The postcard of a
corporal of the 'Gesandschaftsschutzwache' (guard of the embassy) mailed in PEKING on October 16, 1903, reached "SHANGHAI on October 23, and was postmarked by the Russian Post Office the same day. (October 11j). The card reached St. Gallen on

1926: 4c blue, postage due, horizontal pair with gutter margin on letter from TIENTSIN to
SHANGHAI. The 4c franking on the reverse was not accepted as fiscal staps were used, therefore an unusual locally produced postage due cachet was applied. In SHANGHAI the postage due stamps were applied and cancelled. Attractive and rare letter with

1941: Japanese Occupation SHANTUNG, $1 sepia and red brown, die II, small setting, 50 c
green and 13 c green (2) all large setting on postal stationery card from TSINGTAOU to a German internee on Sumatra from his fiancee in Tsingtaou. The letter is endorsed "Air throughout via Bangkok" and bears four different censor marks. According to
handwritten notes the letter took around fourty days to arrive. A most unusual letter to an internee camp accross half of Asia. (Image 1) (Image 2)

1878/1939: Collection beginning with three large dragons, including a 1878 thin paper 1ca
green fine unused no gum, a very good range small dragons mostly used, 1897 Dowager Empress with new currency overprint predominantly used with values to 30c. Later issues include the Curtis Jenny airplane issue 1921, 1932 North West Scientific
Expedition unused and a range of other values. The quality needs to be looked at with a cautious eye, there are also some forgeries noted, overall a well worthwhile lot with many really good stamps.
