3141 imageRough perforation 14 to 16 1861/70: (½ d.) blue-green, rough perforation 14 to 16, an unused block of sixty-three (9 x 7) showing a complete impression of the paper-maker's double lined watermark "MORBEY & SAUNDERS 1840". Perkins Bacon usually used paper supplied from Rush, Mills & Co. of Northampton, therefore this paper must have been utilised as a result of an error or the usual supplier had temporarily run short. The block hinged for protection but with thirty stamps unmounted og. This block is mentioned in an article in 'The London Philatelist' of September 1916 by Dr. E.W. Floyd. Unique.rnProvenance: Collection Hodsell Hurlock, Harmers, London, 16-24 June 1958, lot 203; 'Selected Rarities', Harmer Rooke/SG, London, 21-22 May 1964, lot 58; Collection Frank Deakin, Harmers, London, 29 April 2010, lot 94. 3146 imageRough perforation 14 to 16 1861/70: (1 d.) very deep blue, Plate II, rough perforation 14 to 16, an unused corner marginal pair, from upper left of sheet and showing "2" in margin, unissued, variety "Imperforate", fresh and very fine, unused without gum as are all known examples of this variety. Slightest crease in margin only, an extraordinarily rare and most attractive multiple and in all probability, unique. Cert. Gi = £ 1'600+.rnNote: See the Gibbons footnote where they state 'examples cannot readily be distinguished from SG 10'. Obviously with a Plate Number 2 in margin, first utilised from 1866/67 the difference can here be noted with some ease. The colour of this pair bears no relation to the colour of the listed SG 23arnwhich is a pale blue.rn (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
