VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT 1851 ISSUE, WHICH COMBINES ONE OF THE SCARCEST RECUTTING VARIETIES WITH THE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER.
Examples of the 1c 1851 showing the plate number are quite rare. Position 51L on Plate 1 Late is one of only six positions with the double recut at top, four of these have a single recut at bottom, and two have the double recut at bottom. The presence of the plate number on an example of 51L1L is extremely rare and desirable. (Image)
