VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE UNUSED COMBINATION PAIR OF 1851 ONE-CENT TYPES II AND IV IMPERFORATE. THIS UNUSED PAIR MAY WELL BE UNIQUE.
Position 4R1L is the only position on the plate that was not recut on Plate 1 Late, thus producing a Type II stamp. Vertical pairs are considerably rarer than horizontal, and so this combination may be unique (outside of the intact pane).
With 1970 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail $3,900.00 as original gum (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED USED BLOCK CONTAINING POSITION 4R1L, WHICH IS THE ONLY POSITION ON PLATE ONE LATE THAT WAS NOT RECUT. A FABULOUS ONE-CENT 1851 IMPERFORATE MULTIPLE, CONTAINING POSITIONS 1R, 2R, 3R AND 4R FROM PLATE ONE LATE, PRINTED IN THE WONDERFUL DEEP SHADE OF 1852.
Illustrated in the Neinken book (an enlarged photo taking up the entire page 129), where described: "Another remarkable item... in a deep blue shade... from a very early 1852 printing and contains an outstanding example of 4R1L". In addition to the Type II 4R1L, this block contains Positions 3R1L, which was a Type Ib on Plate 1 Early, prior to recutting.
