franking of 7fr20c, affixed to large sizBELGIUM, 1849-54, 20c Blue, 40c Carmine Rose (5, 7-8). Horizontal strip of three of No. 5, two pairs of No. 7, single, horizontal pair and vertical block of ten of No. 8, margins to slightly in with a total franking of 7fr20c, affixed to large size cover to Paris, tied by numerous strikes of numeral "62" in 17-bar grid, orange-red "Huy 26 Oct. 1854" double-circle datestamp, red boxed "CC" (special messenger) handstamps and two strikes of red boxed "PD" along with red "Belg" French double-circle transit, evidently the red Huy town marking was applied before the block of ten was affixed as it is partially under the block which is otherwise well-tied, it is believed that the block was added to pay postage deficiency, there are cover creases and edge faults, somewhat immaterial for this unique and very rare cover, it is believed that this was a "Diplomatic" cover mailed during the crucial Sevastapol Campaign of the Crimean War, and has also been suggested that the contents were perhaps an effort to smooth the waters between France and Belgium as Belgium was neutral in the war and had to maintain diplomatic relations with Russia that evidently did not sit well with the French, a magnificent showpiece (Image)
