Vertical block of six with part of left imprint and full plate "No. 1" in huge sheet margin, large margins to just in on other sides, rich color, somewhat defective with wrinkles and tears, tied by a massive amount of smeared ink which appears to have been applied by pressing the ink pad against the stamps, "Poughkeepsie N.Y. Apr. 9" circular datestamp on buff cover to Nicholsville N.Y., cover with flaws, still Fine, an exceedingly rare multiple of the 1c Ty. IV with part imprint and showing the full plate number, according to Neinken (p. 130-131), the imprint and plate number were added to the first 1c 1851 plate around May 1852, this cover does not have a year date, but if it could be proven to be 1852, then this April use would represent the earliest example of the imprint and plate number -- in any case, a remarkable artifact, if not for the overzealous cancel, it would be worth many times our estimate (Image)
