Horizontal pair, tied by circle of wedges and "Yokohama, Japan Jul. 22" circular datestamp on 1871 folded cover to Burglen, Switzerland, sender's oval handstamp, endorsed "via San Francisco and New York", red "New York Paid All Aug. 22" circular datestamp, Zurich and receiving backstamps, light horizontal file fold clear of stamps, stamps with few trivial imperfections of no consequence

VERY FINE. A RARE USAGE FROM THE U.S. POST OFFICE IN YOKOHAMA, JAPAN, TO SWITZERLAND.

The 20c postage pays 10c rate from Japan to the U.S. and 10c rate from the U.S. to Switzerland. (Image)
