EXTREMELY FINE. A MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT SECOND ISSUE WITH INVERTED CENTER.
The last example we offered was in our auction of the Zoellner revenues (Sale 827). The Joyce, Zoellner and Tolman stamps are consecutively dated in manuscript by the same user (12/27/1871, 1/2/1872 and 1/4/1872, respectively). (Image)
FINE. ONLY FIFTEEN COPIES OF THE 20-CENT SECOND ISSUE WITH INVERTED CENTER ARE RECORDED. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE INVERT ARE KNOWN SOUND.
In his privately published census of Scott R111a, Larry Lyons notes thirteen singles and a pair. Of these, only one single and one stamp in the pair are sound. The example offered here, sound with a light herringbone cut cancel, is one of the finest copies extant. (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY SIXTEEN EXAMPLES OF THE 25-CENT SECOND ISSUE WITH INVERTED CENTER ARE RECORDED.
In his privately published census, Larry Lyons records sixteen examples of the 25c Second Issue Invert. Of these, ten have faults, one is noted as having a herringbone cancellation, and three have no notes as to condition (our records note that at least one is faulty).
With 1971 P.F. certificate. (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY 27 EXAMPLES OF THE 70-CENT SECOND ISSUE INVERTED CENTER ARE RECORDED.
In his privately published census, Larry Lyons records 26 examples of the 70c inverted center. The example offered here is not included in the census, and so becomes the 27th recorded example. Fifteen have herringbone cancellations (the cancels on the others are not noted). Surprisingly, 23 of the 27 are noted as having faults. The stamp offered here, with a small thin spots, is one of the finest examples recorded. (Image)
