The domestic rate was 10k, and since the letter is not overweight, and there is no indication of registration or insurance, this may have simply been a convenience use. Nonetheless, this may possibly be a unique usage of the 30k on a single-rate domestic cover.

3014 1 image1857, First Issue imperforate, 10k brown & blue (Scott 1), a breathtaking mint example, boasting huge even margins and luxurious, rich colors & impression, along with nearly full yellow-white original gum, extremely fine and choice, a simply remarkable example of this rare and legendary stamp, o.g., lightly hinged, ex- Salisbury, ex-Lovitz, 2014 Royal Philatelic Society photo certificate.
Michel 1. Zagorsky 1. Zverev 1.
Scott $25,000 for a no gum example.
Estimate $50,000 - 75,000

The gum of this issue has been a somewhat hotly contested topic. The current Royal certificate states "unused" & genuine. As is the Royal's polocy, their certificates do not comment on gum, except where they state the stamp is regummed or has no gum. The term "unused" means that the gum remaining, which may be more or less, depending on the age of the stamp and its normally expected condition, is original to the stamp, making the example we offer here one of a very few certified with original gum.
