323 1610c image1979, $1 Lamp, Brown (Candle Flame) Inverted, o.g., never hinged, fresh and well centered, Very Fine, rare with only about 95 examples accounted for from the only known pane issued; with 2014 P.S.E. certificate. Scott No. 1610c  $17,500. Known as the "CIA" invert, the known pane of 100 was sold by the McLean, Virginia post office in the spring of 1986 an employee of the CIA who had been sent to the post office to buy stamps for the agency. The inverted error was discovered shortly after and nine CIA employees decided to switch the errors for newly purchased normal issues. The story of what happen eventually was leaked and a scandal eventually ensued with four employees being fired. (Image1)

Scott No. C3a  $350,000. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE FAMOUS 1918 24¢ INVERTED "JENNY" ERROR AND AN ATTRACTIVE EXAMPLE OF THIS CLASSIC WORLD GEM. According to "Jenny" by George Amick (Amos Press, 1986), the original sheet of 100 Inverted "Jenny" stamps was purchased for $24 by William T. Robey at the New York Avenue Branch Post Office window in Washington D.C., on May 14, 1918, one day after the stamp was first placed on sale at the main post office. On May 20, Robey sold his sheet for $15,000 to Eugene Klein, a Philadelphia stamp dealer. Klein had already arranged to sell the sheet to Col. Edward H. R. Green for $20,000. Colonel Green instructed Klein to divide the Inverted "Jenny" sheet into singles and blocks, and to sell all but a few key position blocks. (Image1)

"X" cancel, tied by orange-red "New-York Aug. 8" government cds on 1842 folded letter to Union Corners, N.Y., with red manuscript "18¾" rating, Extremely Fine and choice, a gorgeous example of the first adhesive stamp issued in the Western hemisphere, ex-C. E. Chapman, Caspary; signed Colson. Scott No. 40L1  Estimate $2,000 - 3,000. ONE OF TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE STAMP ACTUALLY TIED BY THE NEW YORK POST OFFICE DATESTAMP AND ONE OF ONLY SIX INTER-CITY USAGES. An extremely late use of Grieg's stamp - he was appointed as an official letter carrier by order of August 1, 1842, effective August 16; during the last months as a private post, it appears that letters carried to the mails were not postmarked by the City Despatch Post.
