In 1883, Colombia issued a new registration stamp that was used in Panama until 1888. Domestic registration was not widely used and very few non-philatelic usages have survived. Fr. No. 2, 27 Nov 92" cds and red (12.23) entry cds; cover faults incl. no flap and small edge repair at top, opened on three sides, Fine. Scott No. Colombia F10 + Panama 12, 18  Estimate $400 - 600. A RARE COMBINATION USE OF THE 1887-88 AND 1892-96 STAMP ISSUE. This was a double rate cover franked with 30¢ instead of the correct 20¢. The "1695" to the left of the stamps indicates 16.95 grams. The double rate is 15 to 30 grams, whereas the triple rate is over 30 grams but less than 45 grams. Both of these stamps were on sale at the Panama post office at the time of the mailing, since the 1892-96 20¢ value was not issued until January 1, 1895. (Image1)

Scott No. Panama F9 + 59, 60, 62-64  Estimate $400 - 600. The so-called reprints of the first Provisional Issue should be divided into two groups, the first would be the overprints in the two original colors, rose-red and blue-black. These were prepared when the rubber stamp handstamp was quite worn and were for current postal needs. The second group would be the overprints made for sale to collectors. These show an even more worn handstamp and were prepared using inking pads other than the original colors. This cover has examples from both groups (2c pair and 1P are original, rest magenta reprints). Other covers show that the second group was acceptable to pay postal fees. By the March date of this cover, both the 2nd and 3rd Provisional Issues were available at the Panama post office. (Image1)
