Sam Houston Philatelics Sale - 3093

Internet, Mail, and Phone Auction - June 15, 2022

Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 823 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A specialty item in this auction is Lot 288 - No. 1715b MAJOR ERROR, 13¢ BUTTERFLIES, UPPER LEFT CORNER BLOCK OF 4, PLATE NUMBER 37830 and 37831, IMPERF HORIZONTALLY, very rare, only two blocks known to exist. A few of the other highlights include the following:
  • UNITED STATES, There are (141) U.S. lots with several nice Classics and Pictorials (22) highlighted by a no. 1 Franklin and the 24¢ Declaration of Independence and 30¢ Shield. Also, there are several Banknote issues (18), a $1, $2, and $4 Columbian and a few Exposition lots (27), with nice several Trans-Mississippi and 1890s Regular issues. There are (48) lots of Washington/Franklins and late 1920s issues, which includes a 579 Plate Block of 6 and the White Plains Souvenir Sheet of 25. In the 1930 to Date section (22), there are (5) graded stamps with PSE certificates.
  • COVERS, There are (59) Cover lots - an interesting selection of (14) Commercial and (45) First Day Covers. There is an interesting circa 1845 New York stampless cover, Paquebot covers, an STS-8 Flight Cover and a C15 flight cover. There are also a couple of beautifully hand-painted FDC's.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, Contains (56) total lots consisting of (15) Airmails with a complete set of Graf Zeppelins (LH); and (41) Back of Book issues, including an unused copy of PR106 newspaper stamp.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, (41) Lots of EFO's are offered. A variety of mis-perfs, different shades and color shifts, under inking, etc. Great selection that includes several multi-stamp lots. Special attention is called to Lot 288, a true rarity, the MAJOR ERROR of the 13¢ Butterflies issue, no. 1715b.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, includes (189) lots; (91) from about three dozen different countries; Australia, Canada, Peoples Republic of China, Falklands, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, and on to Zanzibar. There are (10) U.S. collections, (17) Foreign Country lots that includes a quality Italy collection and a nice clean Surinam collection; there are a few World Wide lots and (6) Topical collections, including the Olympics and Elvis.

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are (10) Autograph lots with signatures of notables in various fields, e.g., Art Carney in entertainment, Chris Evert/Pancho Gonzales/Bobby Riggs of tennis, and very famous names on the 1940 Olympic Committee poster stamp sheets. There are (6) Remarqued postage stamps, (4) Exposition lots, and a couple in Literature and Memorabilia.

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS, PRINTS (Federal, Junior and State) contains about (179) lots. There are (10) Junior Duck stamp lots with a JDS1 Imperforate Block of 4 to consider and (12) Duck Stamp Plate Number Single lots. We hope you find the one to complete your collection! There are (129) Federal lots with singles, plate blocks and a few Graded issues, with an RW10 Lower Left Plate Block of 6, very nice! You'll find (6) Mini-sheets; (4) Graded with PSE certificates. There are (15) Duck Error lots this auction, mostly shifted colors. For the Press sheet collector, we have a selection of (11) lots of various configurations, including a scarce RW72 center top gutter block of 4. Also, we have (35) Artist Signed Federal stamps to help fill out your signature collection. A small variety of State duck stamps (21), Governor's Editions (48), with about two dozen hand-signed by various Governors. Also, there are (20) Conservation and Fishing stamp lots. To finish the sale, you will find a half dozen prints: (1) Federal - RW44; and (5) First of State Duck Prints from Alaska, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
